1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)
A ball is out of bounds if it lies:
- Beyond any walls or fences bounding the course
- Beyond the line of the white posts/railings in front of the Clubhouse and adjoining car parks
- Beyond the line of white posts on the right of the 14th hole adjacent to the greenkeepers compund
2. Penalty Areas (Rule 17)
Penalty areas are defined by Red or Yellow stakes or lines
Relief to be taken under Rule 17
The part of any bridge that crosses a penalty area is deemed inside the penalty area
3. Abnormal Course Conditions including immovable obstructions (Rule 16)
3.1 Ground Under Repair (Rule 16.1)
- Any area circled by a white line or marked by appropriate signage is deemed to be Ground Under Repair. Free relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 16.
3.2 Immovable Obstructions (Rule 16.1)
- All artificially surfaced paths, including the public footpaths which cross the course at the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 14th and 18th holes (including the footpath which runs along the boundary wall parallel to the 1st hole)
- All bridges
- All sprinkler heads
- In addition, when the players ball lies within the general area, they may take relief under Rule 16.1b if a sprinkler head is located on the line of play and is: on or within 2 club-lengths of the putting green and within 2 club-lengths of the ball. N.b. This local rule only applies when both the ball and the sprinkler head are in part of the general area cut to fairway height or less and complete relief must be taken which includes both physical and line of play interference.
- All integral dry-stone walls (such as those supporting teeing areas)
3.3 Embedded Ball (rule 16.3)
Rule 16.3 is modified as follows:
Free relief is NOT permitted when a ball is embedded in stacked turf or soil faces of bunkers
4. Integral Objects
All boundary walls or fences bordering the course are integral parts of the course from which free relief is NOT permitted
Due to the nature of the boundary wall adjacent to the 6th hole, relief MAY be taken in the drop zone provided (regardless of whether it is closer to hole) under penalty of 1 stroke
5. Practice Areas
Practice areas are part of the 'general area' of the golf course and play should proceed as normal. Free relief MUST be taken from the practice putting and chipping greens under rule 13.1(f)
The 16th tee practice area is NOT to be used for practice on competition days from the point at which play has reached the 15th hole
6. No Play Zones (including protected trees)
No play zones are marked with blue paint, blue & white stakes or blue ribbons (protected trees)
If a player's ball lies within one of these areas, or such an area interferes with the player's stance or area of intended swing, relief MUST be taken under rule 17
Free relief from the net which protects the practice area adjacent to the 1st fairway is only permitted if the net interferes with the players area of stance or intended swing - htere is no relief for line of sight / intended line of play
